On the 21st of September, we had the pleasure of welcoming Ms Marlene Rosemarie Madsen, Deputy Head of Cabinet of Vice-President Jyrki Katainen,Jobs, Growth, Investment and Competitiveness for a debate on how to protect the competitivity of EU industry in an uncertain political climate.
The world business environment is experiencing some serious political challenges lately. On the one hand, Brexit & the new Trump administration may lead to increased concerns while, on the other hand, France and Germany new leaders should reconfirm their willingness to relaunch the EU integration. The EU Russia dialogue remains a source of difficulties while Vladimir Putin should be reconfirmed for another term.
EU industry should potentially benefit from the unsecure external political environment. There is a pressing need to reaffirm the competitivity of the EU economy, creating more job opportunities. This requires an EU policy which promotes innovation, digitalisation, reduces hurdles to market access & redtape. A more active dialogue is necessary between EU decision-makers and the leading EU business community.
In this respect, Mrs Madsen elaborated on how the Commission is intending to evolve in this political environment and to promote EU business interests.
